Surgeon to discuss volunteer service

Tom Measles, MD, a general surgeon in Thousand Oaks, will discuss his experiences as a volunteer with Doctors Without Borders, in Port Harcourt, Nigeria, in May 2006, from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Wed., Sept. 26 at the Grant Brimhall/Thousand Oaks Library, 1401 E. Janss Road.

The program is free and open to the public.

His presentation will include photos of patients he treated in the hospital and a discussion of the work of Doctors Without Borders in the Niger Delta and elsewhere.

A private, nonprofit organization, Doctors Without Borders was founded in 1971 as the first nongovernmental organization that provides emergency medical assistance and bears witness to the plight of the people it assists.

Measles studied at UC Berkeley and Guadalajara University.

The event is co-sponsored by Global Exchange Ventura County Supporters and Fellowship of Reconciliation, Ventura County.
