Hot weekend will include Chamber BBQ The Moorpark Chamber of Commerce is getting fired up about the Family Fall Festival & BBQ Cook-Off that will take place tomorrow, Sept. 8, from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. at Tierra Rejada Ranch. Teams from all over California will face each other "grill to grill" to vie for the best barbecue title. Professional judges from the California BBQ Association will be on hand to award cash and prizes in four different categories: chicken, ribs, pork and brisket. They will then select the Grand Champion and Reserve Champion. Several area restaurants will also be competing in a People's Choice contest. The winner will receive a banner and bragging rights. Taste samples will be available throughout the day while supplies last. In addition to the great barbecue, the event will also feature the usual carnival fare. Funnel cakes, roasted corn on the cob and beer and wine will be available onsite. Guests can sit and eat while enjoying entertainment provided by two bands, Vertigo Blend and Imagine- a Beatles tribute band- and a martial arts demonstration by students of Jason Flame's Tang Soo Do University. Vendor booths will be displaying all types of wares at the event. "With the holiday season just around the corner this is a great opportunity to visit the variety of vendors and get some early shopping done," said Chamber President Lisa Masotti. For children, the Kiddie Karnival area will feature rides and games and local party clown Mr. Blue. Visitors age 18 and over can participate in the Vendor Poker Run for a chance to win $100. The adult admission of $10 includes three tickets that can be used for taste testing or rides. Children 10 and under are free. Parking is free and shuttle service is available For more information, call the Moorpark Chamber of Commerce at (805) 529-0322. |
