Arts center auditions for gothic tale The High Street Arts Center will host auditions for "Victor" by Alistair Faulkner. This original play was produced in the United States only once previously, in North Hollywood in 2002, and was elected critic's choice by the L.A. Times, L.A. Weekly and Backstage West. Auditions are at 7 p.m. Mon. and Tues., Aug. 20 and 21 at the High Street Arts Center, 45 E. High St., Moorpark. Sides will be provided at the audition or are available at www.highstreetartscenter.com/ theatreinfo.html. Rehearsals begin Aug. 27. Performances are Oct. 5 through Nov. 3 on Fridays and Saturdays at 8 p.m. and Sundays at 2 p.m. There is no pay. Rolland Petrello will direct the show. Approaching the wellknown story of Frankenstein from a different angle, this version takes place on a remote island at the northern tip of Scotland where, in 1810, the brooding Victor thinks he has found sanctuary with the quietly adoring Agnes; her doctor brother, James; and James' lovely if conceited wife, Freya. The creature will find Victor here, however, and soon death will haunt a place where the tormented scientist had found abundant life. The roles are: Victor Frankenstein, 30s to 40s; James Gifford, 30s to 40s; Agnes Gifford, 20s to 30s, falls in love with Victor, sweet, well meaning, Scottish; Freya Gifford, 20s to 30s, James' wife, beautiful and knows it, longs to see the world, Scottish; Ewan Sinclair, 20s to 30s, laird of the island, a dashing figure, charming, tall, attractive, Scottish; The Creature, 30s to 45, eloquent, vengeful, large man, 6-foot, 2-inches or taller, Bavarian; and Captain Walton, 20s to 60s, captain of an exploratory vessel, British.
