Musketeers land water polo coach In late June Moorpark High hired Jason Nevis to teach architecture at the school. Nevis' other job will be to help construct a solid aquatics program for the Musketeers. With Thomas King leaving the program after one year at the helm, Nevis was hired to become the new boys' and girls' water polo coach. According to MHS athletic director Rob Dearborn, the question of whether or not Nevis will be the swimming coach is still up in the air and will not be known until the fall semester when current coach Garrett Rose decides what his plans are. Rose was hired earlier this year. "We're glad to have Jason aboard at Moorpark," Dearborn said. "He is a young and enthusiastic coach, and that's what we are looking for at Moorpark. He has already met with some of the kids and parents, and he went over really well with them." Nevis had previously coached at La Mirada High School. Besides coaching the water polo teams and teaching architecture, Nevis has also taught physical education. "He has a unique way of coaching that I like," Dearborn said. "I have a feeling he is going to be here for a long time." According to Dearborn, the program has been feeling pressure from students and parents to get a new coach for quite some time. "When you have a walk-on coach you are always going to hear some things from the parents," Dearborn said. "We had a problem of getting a coach in to help with the kids before the pool closed at Mavericks at 5:30 p.m. However, Mavericks has been great through this whole process, and I think we have a situation we're all comfortable with now." As of press time Nevis hadn't returned phone calls seeking comment. |
