Homeowners to get tax relief from state

The property and tax valuation bill AB-793, proposed by Assemblymember Audra Strickland (R-Moorpark) to reduce the tax burden for some homeowners in the Moorpark affordable housing program, was unanimously approved by the Assembly on June 5.

The Ventura County tax assessor is currently figuring a silent second trust deed into the tax valuation for properties sold through the affordable housing in Moorpark. City officials opposed the tax calculation method.

Strickland introduced the bill in February to ensure that silent trust deeds held by the city are not included in the taxes imposed on homes sold through the affordable housing program.

The bill will go to the state Senate for consideration in the future.
