Moms- the unsung heros
In the past, the Moorpark Acorn has run editorials about the hurly-burly pace of working adults and their daily time-starved lives. We've also run stories about the fact that parents run themselves ragged for the payment of kisses from their kids.

It should be stated that moms are the backbone of the nuclear family. An incredible number of responsibilities play a part in a mother's daily life. Nursing boo-boos, pampering pouts, reading nighttime stories, tucking in tired toddlers are all images that immediately come to mind. But that barely covers it.

To run a home successfully, the modern family has learned to balance responsibilities in a more equitable way. While mom is busy with laundry and housecleaning, dad might pick up the slack by doing the grocery shopping, or taking the time to get the rug rats to weekend sports or arts activities.

During the week, while mom whips something up for the family in the kitchen, dad can spend quality time helping the kids with homework or school projects.

It's amazing to think that most, if not all, of this load was typically carried entirely by moms "back in the day." It was socially acceptable for husbands to dump all of the household and child-rearing duties on the mothers and sit back on the Barcalounger with feet up, pipe lit, and a martini gently shaken, not stirred. A man who would take this approach these days would be a prime candidate for marriage counseling, if not lynching.

The fact is, a mom's nurturing love is what makes everything okay, no matter what the problem might be. For that, we'd like to say "Happy Mother's Day" to mothers everywhere.

Love you, Mom!
