Flory students to blast off in astronaut simulation

First and fourthgrade students at Flory Academy will participate in an astronaut simulation in Space Station Flory today, Fri., April 27, at the school campus.

The Space Shuttle Cafe will start selling food at 4 p.m. Blast off will be 6 p.m., followed by activities from 6:20 to 8:30 p.m.

The event will allow the students to experience situations similar to what an astronaut encounters while living and working in a space environment.

The young astronauts will report to the launch pad ready for liftoff wearing helmets and oxygen packs which they have designed.

During lift-off ceremonies, dignitaries' letters of well-wishes will be read, the Challenger song will be sung and a shuttle launch will be projected onto the screen.

The children will then report to their squadron and follow a rotation schedule that includes eating in space, toys in space, exercising in space, building in space, rockets and moon rocks.

For more information, call Linda Anderson at Flory Academy, (805) 378-6303.
