Fillmore carjacking ends with bullet-riddled car abandoned in Moorpark neighborhood

Suspects in an alleged carjacking that took place in Fillmore abandoned the stolen vehicle in Moorpark on April 1 but escaped arrest.

Fillmore police officers responded to a call of a fight in progress with unknown male Hispanics using bats in the area of "B" Street and Blaine at 8:26 p.m. Gunshots were also heard in the area. Witnesses said a small, white compact and possibly a Ford or Chevy van were seen leaving the area.

When deputies arrived, all the parties involved in the incident were gone. The Sheriff's Dispatch continued to receive numerous calls of disturbances involving these vehicles throughout the city.

A short time later, vehicles similar to the ones in the Fillmore incident were seen in the area around Charles Street and Everett in Moorpark, along with calls of subjects fighting and shots heard.

A victim on Charles Street, Ramon Izarraraz, 21, of Fillmore, told deputies that unknown assailants had attacked him and his wife, Elizabeth Martinez, 18, of Fillmore, while they were on "C" Street in Fillmore. Izarraraz and Martinez were in separate vehicles, stopped at an intersection, when they were attacked. The suspects came at the couple with bats and stole one of the vehicles while Izarraraz and Martinez fled in the other vehicle. The victims were not injured during the attack.

Izarraraz drove home and returned to the area with some friends and family to locate the suspects instead of calling the police. Izarraraz drove toward Moorpark because he had heard the suspects yell, "Moorpark."

He and his friends found the suspects in his stolen vehicle on Grimes Canyon and chased them into Moorpark where another confrontation occurred, but the suspects escaped again in the stolen vehicle. At this point the Moorpark deputies found Izarraraz.

The victim's vehicle was eventually found abandoned on Magnolia Street in Moorpark. The vehicle had several fresh bullet holes in it along with numerous broken windows. The suspects were not found.

The investigation is continuing.
