Sex ed assembly not appropriate

In reading the article on the Mesa Verde school sex education scandal, I was reminded of how much progress towards becoming a socialist country we have made. We've arrived to where there is widespread belief, at least within our government, that the government knows best on every aspect of society, including how to raise our kids.

That coed sex education is taught to middle school children at all is an outrage. That a middle school principal would allow a sex ed program about oral sex to be presented in a coed assembly of 12, 13, and 14-year-olds without having even made the effort to make positive verification that the material is appropriate is simply unforgivable.

I call for the dismissal of Mesa Verde Principal, Kelli Hays, who evidently did not preview the materials previous to exposing them to the children attending the assembly.

I find it highly disturbing that our newest City Council member, Mark Van Dam, had only positive things to say about a program that educates our children on oral sex.

Fellow citizens and parents, Big Brother is alive and well and firm in its belief that it knows better how to raise your kids than you do. I call on the voters to rise up and speak. I will not be voting for Mr. Van Dam in future elections.

I call on the Moorpark Unified School District board of trustees to weigh in on this scandal. We need to know where you stand so we can make an informed decision next time you are up for election as well. Randy Wheeler Moorpark
