Supersized art on display at college

Painter Tina Frugoli's artwork is on display in the Administration Building art gallery of Moorpark College through Jan. 19.

The work is abstract and supersized. Some pieces had to be moved from her Conejo Valley studio by commercial moving van.

"My paintings are based on snapshots of everyday moments," Frugoli said. "I photograph these moments just as I see them. I don't adjust the camera much to avoid or include details.

"Initially I translate these snapshots into loose line drawings. I color in these line drawings using vibrant color fields. Bringing all the shapes onto one plane unites the elements; giving objects, figures, and shadows equal value. If there is a person in the painting I see that figure as simply another part of the landscape."

Frugoli has a master's degree in painting from Cal State Northridge and a bachelor's in arts in studio art from Cal State Los Angeles.
