New postal unit opens
      Casino Self Storage in Moorpark was recently awarded a new contract postal unit, which will provide the same postal products and full services at the same rates as the regular Moorpark Post Office. Casino Self Storage employees will staff the unit. During the holiday season, employees will also provide gift wrapping services.

Post office to process passports
      The U.S. Postal Service will host a passport fair from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sat., Dec. 1 at the Moorpark Post Office, 215 W. Los Angeles Ave. To speed the process at this event, extra staff will be on hand to assist customers assembly-line fashion with preparing the application, ensuring documents are in order and accepting the application.

Help fight pollution
      The Ventura County Air Pollution Control District Advisory Committee has a seat open for a qualified citizen. The 20-member citizens' advisory board is appointed by the Air Pollution Control Board. The committee meets monthly as necessary to review staff-proposed new and revised rules and makes recommendations to the Air Pollution Control Board on those rules.

Shoppers be wary
      The woman told police she thought her purse was safe in the back seat of her car. She had placed the purse on the seat while loading packages into the trunk after shopping at a local shopping center last month. When she prepared to drive off, however, a thief seemed to come out of nowhere, open her car door and grab the purse off the back seat, said Senior Dep.

      For four decades lions roared loud and often in Thousand Oaks. Leo the MGM lion, along with a panther, giraffe, hippopotamus, monkey and other storied creatures of Jungleland are long silent, children playing on their replicas will be squealing with delight when the new play area at The Oaks mall opens Saturday.

The high price of lottery scams
      While Senior Dep. Bob Maclean sat in the Camarillo woman's home, trying to convince her that she was indeed the victim of a lottery scam, her phone rang. On the other end was the scam artist who had already bilked the elderly woman out of $30,000, Maclean said.

House sales sluggish
      The pace of new home sales remained sluggish in September, the California Building Industry Association reported last week. The monthly CBIA/Hanley Wood Market Intelligence New Home Sales and Pricing Report showed that new home sales in September were 45 percent below the same month a year ago.

No touch round steak
      2 pounds round steak 1 package dry onion soup mix 3/4 stick margarine 1 teaspoon garlic salt Put a large sheet of aluminum foil on a cookie sheet and dot sheet with half of the margarine. Sprinkle half of the on ion soup mix over this. Lay the whole round steak on it. Dot meat with the rest of the margarine and the onion soup mix.
