Ojai to celebrate the vinyl record

Tribute bands, vendors are planned

Vinyl Record Day, a nonprofit organization dedicated to the preservation of the cultural influences, recordings and cover art of the vinyl record, will host its annual celebration tomorrow, Sat., Aug. 18, at Libbey Bowl in Ojai.

The Rockfest show runs from noon to 10 p.m. with bands paying tribute to Jimi Hendrix, Led Zeppelin, Grateful Dead, Allman Brothers, Janis Joplin and Pink Floyd with laser and light show. Libbey Bowl has a choice of bleacher or grass seating.

The Vinyl Village features some of the area's independent record dealers and stores with vinyl to buy, barter, trade or sell. Patrons can also purchase turntables and needles or have a record player repaired.

The inaugural Vinyl Record Day Lifetime Contribution Award will be given to popular DJ Charlie Tuna. He is being honored for decades of bringing music to the world. Tuna is recognized as one of the industry's top radio personalities and has a star on the Hollywood Walk of Fame.

Tickets are $22.50 before the show and $25 at the door. For tickets, contact Ticketmaster or call Howard Freiberg Presents at (805) 640-9014.
