Fire damages local home
      A Moorpark residence became uninhabitable due to smoke damage caused by a kitchen fire last week. The blaze apparently started on the stove top, said Capt. Barry Parker, spokesperson for the Ventura County Fire Department. No one was home when the incident occurred at about 9:25 a.m. at a house in the 14000 block of Hartford Street.

Road rage incident leads to arrest
      Jerry William Rice, 44, of Moorpark, was arrested for allegedly brandishing a gun at California Department of Transportation workers early Monday afternoon. The Caltrans workers called authorities to report that a man in a silver Mercedes was waving a gun at them while they were driving north on Walnut Canyon at Casey Road.

Hummingbirds bring joy to Moorpark artist
      When Magda Hoppe mentions her "little darlings," she's not talking about her tiny-tot relatives. Rather, she's referring to creatures no bigger than her nose. Hoppe is the proud caretaker of her own hummingbird garden. "I'm absolutely nuts over any animal," Hoppe said. "I don't care what it is- bird, cat, lion or tiger.

In the winner's circle
     GOLDEN SUNSET- The Moorpark Gold All Star team finished their post-season play by winning the Sunset Classic Tournament and beating Sunset 10-0. In post-season play the Moorpark Gold Team U8 won the CBC Championship and Sunset Championship and finished second in the Santa Ynez Summer Classic.      Air Force Airman Kerrie E. Kahle has graduated from basic military training at Lackland Air Force Base, San Antonio, Texas, and earned credits toward an associate degree through the Community College of the Air Force. Kahle is the son of Roger Kahle of Moorpark and a 2006 graduate of Moorpark High School.

McDonald's robbed
      The McDonald's restaurant at 501 E. Los Angeles Ave. was robbed Thursday morning, Aug. 2. Am employee was opening the restaurant at 4:25 a.m. when a man wearing a mask and carrying a knife approached her from behind. The suspect ordered the employee inside and forced her to turn over an unknown amount of money, said Capt.

Police arrest man for assault
      Fernando Pimental Ceja, 29, of Oxnard, was arrested for allegedly making terrorist threats against family members who live in Moorpark. According to authorities, the man assaulted his wife and endangered his two children during the incident, which occurred on Monday.
