The Moorpark Active Adult Center presents the following activities for seniors in January.

Events require a reservation and will meet at 799 Moorpark Ave. unless otherwise noted. Programs are free unless a donation is requested.

For more information on any program or to RSVP, call (805) 517-6261. An AARP Mature Driver class

will be offered from 12:30 to 4 p.m. Tues. and Wed., Jan. 2 and 3 in the Citrus Room, adjacent to the Active Adult Center. Qualified course graduates age 50 and up can qualify for a discount on auto insurance premiums. Participants must attend both days to receive a class certificate. The cost is $10.

Joyce Barnett will give a cooking demonstration at 2 p.m. Tues., Jan. 9 in the Active Adult Center kitchen. Barnett will show how to make tamale pie, rice, beans and flan.

Dan Wall, education and training coordinator from the Emergency Preparedness Office of the Public Health Department, will give a free presentation on Emergency Preparedness at 1 p.m. Tues., Jan. 16.

Wall will address effective disaster preparedness tools, the dangers of a flu pandemic, and show "Voices of Wisdom," a video of interviews from earthquake survivors complied by the Federal Emergency Management Authority. One participant will win an emergency preparedness kit.
