Moorpark Scouts give to others

Cub Scout Pack 3604
My name is Steve Swanson, Cubmaster for Pack 3604 that is sponsored by the Moorpark Presbyterian Church.

This is the fifth year we have sponsored “Adopt-A-Family” as a Christmas service project for our community.

This project has each den (group of four-to-eight Scouts that are in the same grade in school) choose a family and purchase Christmas gifts from a list provided by the family and also provide for a Christmas dinner.

The names of the families and their requests are provided to us by Catholic Charities in Moorpark and we are always given families that are financially very challenged.

The Scouts participate in picking out gifts, helping with the shopping, and wrapping the presents. The gifts are placed in plastic clothes baskets that our Pack provides.

This year our Pack was joined by Pack 3601 sponsored by Holy Cross Church in Moorpark and they helped us in this service project.

This picture was taken at the Moorpark Presbyterian Church on Sunday when we assembled the packages for the families and then gathered to sing Christmas Carols for our sponsor after their church service.

This year, through the combined efforts of our Packs, we were able to provide gifts and meals for nine needy families.

I thought you might be interested knowing about some local boys who have a nice appreciation of the true meaning of Christmas. Steve Swanson Cubmaster, Pack 3604 Moorpark
