Type 'O' negative blood donors needed now

Blood donations for United Blood Services-Central Coast improved last week, but were not sufficient to avoid a critical appeal for Type O negative blood.

"We are critically in need of Type O negative blood right now, as it is the blood that can be safely transfused to patients of all blood types. It is often transfused in emergency situations when there is no time to type the patient and perform a cross match with donor blood," said Scott Edward, Blood Center spokesperson.

People are asked to give soon at a Blood Center in Ventura, Camarillo or Thousand Oaks, or at nearby blood drive. Donation centers are open Monday through Friday, and some weekend hours. Several weekend mobile drives are also planned.

Appointments are preferred, but walk-ins are welcome.

To schedule an appointment or to locate a center or blood drive, call (800) 715-3699 or visit www. u n i t e d b l o o d s e r v i c e s . o rg / centralcoast.
