Prop. 87 should have passed

I was extremely disappointed in the outcome of Proposition 87. Did the people who voted no even read the proposal or really understand it? Don't they want cleaner air and to reduce petroleum consumption? Don't they want to have the power to research and educate so we can find alternative energy choices so we can be less dependent on foreign oil? Don't they want the oil companies to pay the same level of fees they pay in other states?

People were tricked and feared they would pay more at the pump if 87 passed, but Proposition 87 actually made it illegal to pass the cost to consumers by increasing the prices of oil, gasoline or diesel fuel.

Wasn't it interesting how immediately after it lost gas prices then started to go up? Unfortunately, big oil companies like Chevron fooled a lot of voters, and they didn't really take the time to learn and listen to people like scientists, educators, doctors, nurses, environmental groups and the foundation of taxpayers and consumer rights. On the other hand, I would like to commend voters who voted for change. We all know we live in a conservative county where unfortunately people like Elton Gallegly and Audra Strickland get reelected, but as a whole we did manage to get a lot of the right people in office in this great state as well as throughout the nation.

Your voice matters and even though most of us may not be happy with things in this current administration, I think the future is going to get a little brighter and some of us are in for a big surprise. Stacy Schloetel Moorpark
