The Ventura County Sheriff's Department is alerting residents to "beware of fundraising scams" related to the ongoing Day fire.

Members of the public have been contacted and asked for funds to help "victims" of the fire, which has burned 160,000 acres of land since it started on Labor Day.

The sheriff 's department asked that any solicitations for funds be reported to local law en- forcement agencies.

According to the department, there are no known victims of the fire, as the blaze has so far been confined to brush and vegetation.
