Bagwell bags McCoy

The article by Brent McCoy in the June 24 Moorpark Acorn is one of the most bone-headed articles I’ve ever read. Inferring that every car from North Park is expected to use the 23 and the 118 at the same time, every day and in both directions is a far fetch.

What’s the continuous problem I keep reading about concerning “all of those gates.” There are currently three gates scheduled to be installed. They will be installed at street entrances to only some of the single family homes. The gates will not block access to any public areas such as parks, retail areas, schools or the lake. What’s the big deal? If you are not visiting a family in the gated area, why is it so important to have access to someone else’s property?

To suggest that the developers may be planning on installing gates because the new citizens may bring “more crime” to our city is another incompetent and negligent comment to publish.

As far as the traffic issues go, the developer is paying for the new interchange on the 118 as well as numerous road improvements around the college. Where is Caltrans? Where are our tax dollars going now? Why is a private developer being extorted by the city of Moorpark with this public welfare program?

Maybe some of those commuters from the San Fernando Valley that are clogging up our highways will move to North Park and stop clogging up those highways.

Mr. McCoy stated that the only open space left will actually just be “left-over patches where they didn’t build stuff.” His comment is absolutely outrageous. The developer is actually giving the residents of Moorpark a 2,121acre nature preserve. This property was not available for public use, but will be with the new development plan. The open space also includes a new, permanent greenbelt buffer between Moorpark and Simi Valley, protecting Moorpark’s unique character and preventing future sprawl.

This is a great project. It will increase the values of property all around and will provide more jobs in our community. Please get the facts before you vote. David K. Bagwell Moorpark
