Moorpark Chamber, Scouts challenge businesses to play ball

The Moorpark Chamber of Commerce has scheduled a charity softball double-elimination tournament to raise funds for Boys Scouts programs in Moorpark. The Moorpark Business Softball Tournament will play from about 8 a.m. to 8 p.m. Sun., July 24 at Arroyo Vista Community Park, 4550 Tierra Rejada Road, Moorpark.

A minimum of four women must be on each team, and the event will use regulations based on Moorpark Park and Recreation softball league rules. Businesses are encouraged to field a team.

The entry fee is $1,000 per team or $100 per player.

The entry deadline is Thurs., July 21. The tournament schedule will be released Fri., July 22.

Individuals may also make donations in any amount with a check payable to Moorpark Boy Scouts. Business sponsorships are available.

Volunteers are also needed to assist in the event.

“This is a great opportunity for local businesses to show their community spirit, and compete against other local businesses for bragging rights,” said Virginia Hayward, chamber president and chief executive officer. “And 100 percent of proceeds will go to local Boy Scouts programs. This is a chance to play a game for kids.”

To sign up or for more information, please call the Chamber at (805) 529-0322 or e-mail to presidentceo@moorparkchamber.com. Checks may be mailed to or dropped off at 225 W. Los Angeles Ave., Moorpark.
