Interactive Kipling tale to play locally

The Gypsies in a Trunk theatre group will present "The Jungle Book," a "wonderfully imaginative and creative play" based on the famous stories of Rudyard Kipling, at 10:30 a.m. Sat., July 3 at Foxfield Park, 31965 Foxfield Drive, Westlake Village and again at 4 p.m. at Rancho Simi Community Park amphitheater in Rancho Simi Park, at the corner of Erringer Road and Royal Avenue in Simi Valley.

The story revolves around Mowgli, a jungle boy raised by wolves, who lives in the bush with his good friends, Baloo, the bear; Bagheera, the panther; and Kaa, the python snake.

Shere Khan, a man-eating tiger and Mowgli’s mortal enemy, wants to rule the jungle, and it’s up to Mowgli to defeat him.

According to show director Roxanne Diesel, this is "truly a participation show, as audiences get to portray silly monkeys, helpful elephants, wolves, reptiles, bees and even a tropical storm."

Admission is free. Those attending are welcome to bring a picnic and blankets but are requested to leave dogs at home. For information, call (661) 718-3968 or visit www.gypsyplayers.com.
