In the aftermath, a new sense of direction

How can we use our shared experience of the Simi/Moorpark fire to better our lives?

You know something? We already are.

What’s slowly emerging from the ashes is a renewed sense of community that most of us have never experienced. People are friendlier and more responsive to needs and questions. Folks at city hall are honestly trying to step up to the plate to serve the needs of people looking for help. The entire community, both as one and in smaller groups like the Boy Scouts, the Boys and Girls Club and the Moorpark College Board of Directors, are reaching out to the men and women who put everything on the line to protect our growing town.

If this common bond persists, we may actually end up with something we’ve been searching for since Moorpark became a city: a common goal, a shared purpose. This attitude can provide a sense of courage and direction that’s necessary to reach whatever we perceive as this city’s destiny.

People are discovering the benefits of volunteerism and activism. Folks are writing letters to the newspapers and tracking what’s going on at city council meetings.

It’s a new day and Moorpark is seizing it. Bravo!
