What a Rush
Americans are justifiably proud of our vigorous fight against crime, our two-tier justice system and our heritage of often stunning puritanical thuggery; this exemplified in witchcraft ordinances, three strikes laws, and the largely unconstitutional and misnamed Patriot Act. However, as compassionate conservatives, we understand that in certain extraordinary circumstances we must make exceptions. For instance sometimes the crimes of drug addiction, procurement and possession are a disorder of the spirit, an affliction of mind and body that can strike at anyone regardless of social stature, political affiliations, wealth or skin color. Therefore, as a great nation we have taken pity on a mean spirited, self righteous, bombastic ideologue who makes a living from filling the airwaves with a mind numbingly poisonous stench and are providing solace, comfort and rehabilitation instead of hard time. But consider, what if Rush Limbaugh were to be tarred with his own brush? What if he were offered the ‘hard love’ so necessary for an eye-opening revelation of Biblical proportions? If he could personally experience the pain and suffering visited upon those unfortunate enough to be caught in the class and racial war on drugs, would he not more eloquently support the need for such laws? Wouldn’t a true epiphany better serve the country? No! It would not! We must remember that conservatives who do jail time turn into liberals and this would be an unacceptable use for such a righteous propagandist. America is not a democracy where one law applies equally to everyone regardless of their estate in life. This guiding light of the world, this republic of privilege, must be able to preserve those fine distinctions necessary to maintaining the rule of law. Remember George Orwell, "All animals are created equal, though some animals are more equal than others." Thomas Scott Nelson
