‘Catechism’ cajoles
"Bee- haaave"
Look out, the nuns are coming.
Although "Late Nite Catechism" is a one-nun show, it may feel as though the watchful eyes of many Sisters are upon you. It’s a "class act", with audience members involved as students in the Sister’s classroom.
The interactive theatre piece runs Oct. 3 and Oct. 17 at the Scherr Forum. With productions running from coast to coast, "Late Nite Catechism" has become a comedy classic. Directed by Marc Silvia, the role of Sister is shared by stand-ups Maripat Donovan, Jane Morris, Kathryn Gallagher, Victoria Delaney and Murphy O’Malley.
Vicki Quade and Maripat Donovan created the show 11 years ago in Chicago. Both grew up in Catholic schools on the South Side. The production has evolved over the years with fresh material culled from the authors’ personal memories and from friends and family. Because audience response varies, each performance is different.
God
frowns upon slouchers. So sit up straight, and let the Sister take you back to the days of the Latin Mass, meatless Fridays and the swat of a stiff ruler across the knuckles. Oh, bee-haaave.
